CARE Project

Community Action Plan to Retrain Ex-offenders (CARE) focuses on providing moral support, education, community support and awareness to people on probation allowing them to safely reintegrate back into their respected communities.

The CARE project’s mission is to reconnect people on probation with their communities by increasing their stability, self-confidence, employment, and housing opportunities, ultimately ending the cycle of re-offending. This is ARKRS’s first non-accommodation-based programme, providing support through various activities and community engagement sessions. The project targets a younger group aged 18-30 and those who have had any contact with the criminal justice system, even if they have not been convicted, offering early intervention to provide positive alternatives to crime.

Expectations and goals

  1. Number of beneficiaries reporting improved mental well-being, behaviour (including reduced stress and anxiety, and observing social distancing), motivation to succeed, and living a positive lifestyle with a reduced risk of re-offending. Improvements in confidence, self-esteem, and ability to cope, as well as empowerment to achieve life goals.
  2. By the end of the project year, the maximum number of beneficiaries seeking employment, securing a job interview, or securing employment. Increasing the number of people enrolled in further training/education, helping overcome long-term barriers associated with Cost of Living.
  3. An improved sense of community among participants as a result of user-led provision. Networks among people who have had contact with the criminal justice system, fostering stronger friendships in order to assist new members sustainably.
